TAKE CARE OF YOUR ALOE VERA

Aloe vera is a plant that does not need a lot of space to care for. It fits perfectly in a pot and you can place it indoors or outdoors, as long as it is protected from frost.

It requires very little maintenance:

Temperature. It requires a warm climate and does not tolerate frost. If you place it outside, protect it during the cold season.

Plenty of light. It does not need to be in full sun, as the tips of its leaves can burn. If you place it outside, a semi-shaded spot will suit it perfectly.

Watering. It should be regular but not excessive. Water every 15 days in winter and every 3 or 4 days at the height of summer.

Peat. Light and well drained.

Fertilise. Once a month during the growing season.

NATURAL PROPERTIES

Aloe vera is very useful to have around because of its natural properties. We would like to highlight three of its most common qualities and uses in personal care:

1. Skin conditions. It is a classic skin remedy for treating all types of problems thanks to its antibiotic and antifungal properties, which attack fungi and bacteria that can be found on the skin. It has a soothing, astringent and cell-regenerating effect. It is indicated for the treatment of burns, sunburn, wounds, scratches, acne, insect bites, etc. It also has a therapeutic effect on herpes.

It is applied directly from the peeled leaf, i.e. once the outer layer has been removed. This gel can be kept for hours with a bandage.

2. Cosmetics. It is used in the composition of many creams and bath soaps, to provide the skin hydration we need on a daily basis. You can use the gel from the leaf yourself and apply it directly.

3. For the digestive system, it is a laxative tonic for the stomach. Take a spoonful of the fresh gel and you will notice an improvement. Do not use if you are pregnant. It is also not recommended for children, and it is always advisable to consult your doctor if problems persist.

RECIPE

MAKE YOUR OWN COSMETICS

Cut off the oldest leaf of the plant and slice it thinly. Separate the outer skin with a knife and place the gel in a dark-coloured container, covering it with an oil of your choice.

Keep for 28 days in a cool, dark place. Then filter the oil into another dark container. You can apply it to your skin to preserve its elasticity and youthfulness, with a maximum shelf life of 30 days.

Use it to remove make-up by soaking a cotton pad directly with it. Then rinse your face with lukewarm water.
